Hello to all 2008/02/19 01:57
Hi y'all, I am from sweet home Alabama, USA! I came across Michael's blog via Elliot's blog and got very interested. The Domaining 101 series give an excellent insight. I am very new to this industry and hoping for a good time (... with help of Mr. Gilmour's advice ). I own 22 domain names and current working on developing one.... very excited about that!

Yes, dns are like drug ... just feel like buying and buying and ... buying!

Take care guys and happy domaining.

Hi Nimesh,
I just bought a domain and was wondering what you pay for advertising?
I payed for the site, I can set it up how I wish, but can only use thier advertising. Is this normal? they want me to pay X amount of $$ for advertising per year; several hundred/month. It seems that every person who has a domain/site uses the same format/template but you can buy more "traffic" per month. (I am garunteed X amount of people on my site and get payed a comission only for a sale when they go through my site). This seems a little fishy, the person I talked to about advertising basicly wanted me to max out my CC.

Any help would be app.

Dave
Please note, although no boardcode and smiley buttons are shown, they are still useable

Hi there,
Welcome aboard!
I'm really grateful that you've found the domaining 101 series useful. It inspires me to continue writing additional articles in that series.

I totally agree with you.....domains can be very addictive!

Hi Dave,

I am not sure I've heard about buying advertising when you buy domain name, but I might be wrong since I'm also new. I have bought domain names with only cost of registration/renewals. I have parked my domains for free at Sedo (not making money ). Did you buy just the domain name or domain name with some kind of services ? Sometimes you have to read those check-boxes before confirming order.

I believe I bought the name ...AND the service, (advertising) if I want to use it.
I called the people I bought the site from and the guy didn't know what I/he was talking about.
It just seems too good to be true. They will help you set up your website, they have a advertising campain that runs for a month, and then you make a commissiion on any sales through your site... I payed $250 for the site (over the phone) and I see on thier site they have them starting at $9.99!! How much did you pay for you domains?
I have read about parked and non- parked sites and the advan/diadvantages... I'll look for the link for you

I paid $6.19/yr/domain at 1and1.com & $9.99/yr/domain at GoDaddy but $35+ at Network Solutions. GoDaddy will try to up sell you on every page so have to be little careful.

Hi to all,
I have been using adsense on my small business site for two years which makes me $130.00 a year. It pays for my hosting costs & renewals yearly. This year the revenue will be higher, as I have spent more time optimising with better revenue paying ads. I'm currently looking at creating more sites over the coming weeks and looking for cheaper hosting. I will be focusing on .com this time, as it appears to be easier to obtain if names are available.

I will use different methods, using some parking domain hosts-they provide hosting & content, create my own pages using dreamweaver with adsense, load some blogs with joomla adsense and compare revenue.

I'm currently using unlimited-space.com Australian hosting service for my business site & love what they provide. For this kind of thing are there cheaper hosting companies recommended ? I currently pay $99.00 a year.

I would DEFINATELY host out of Australia. You'll find that there are some really cheap options available out of the USA.
