.com.au domain extensions 2008/04/08 08:52
Hi All

I'm not sure if this has been asked already on this site, an I apologise if it has, but I am seeking info on .com.au domain extensions.
Are there regulations or laws that prevent/restrict buying and selling for monetary purposes as can be done with .com. domains

Any info (or links to info) would be appreciated

Thanks
Shorty

Hi Michael,

Im trying to find out the same information. I noticed in the article about you there is a reference to the laws being relaxed around registration? Does this mean anyone can register .com.au domains or is it Australian residents only?

PS.. Just back from Brisbane & Sydney.. loved it

Cheers,

Alan

You should be able to register com.au domains if you have registered an Australian business (costs about $80).

On the 1st of June 2008 auDA relaxed it's policy on selling/transfering .au domain names as per the info below.

IMPORTANT NOTICE! The new registrant transfers policy took effect on 1 June 2008. In December 2007, the auDA Board approved a recommendation from the 2007 Names Policy Panel that the registrant transfers policy be relaxed to allow a registrant to transfer their domain name licence to another eligible entity, for any reason.

The new Transfers (Change of Registrant) Policy (2008-08) will take effect on 1 June 2008.

Please Note! You must meet the requirements of AUDA to be able to obtain a .com.au Domain Name (Example: Have a BN or ABN or ACN number etc...). See here for further details: http://www.auda.org.au
